Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
This Saturday, August 20th, from 10 AM to noon, the Library will hold a grant writing workshop with an emphasis on local grants and grant paperwork. So many non-profit organizations are finding their funding harder and harder to raise, making grants a wonderful alternative source of funding. The workshop is free to the public and everyone is invited. If you are coming, please contact the Library so you may be added to the list for supplies and handouts. The Library's number is 1-406-287-3763. Because the requests for grant funding are expanding every year, many local funders, including the JVCF Board, will no longer accept incomplete grant paperwork. Those attending the workshop will receive one free proofreading of their grants.
I met with the 21st Century Program staff last week and we brainstormed all sorts of great ideas for the fall. The Kindergarten through first-grade classes will be doing art, the second and third graders will be performing a Reader's Theater production for everyone, and the older students will be involved in everything from book clubs to art history projects. Even though these programs are arranged with the school program, they are all open to the public. The Library always provides all the supplies needed to do any program at no expense to patrons. We are also working on programs geared to our homeschoolers during the day.
Plans for an adult travel series, a teach-a-craft program, and special speakers are in the works for the adults. Our teens may attend the Holocaust Project, Pokémon Club, and their new book discussion group. Watch for further details on these programs.
We had a rather incredible donation of science fiction and fantasy books so watch for new titles coming to the stacks in the next few weeks. We also have several orders of new children's books and the fall blockbusters arriving soon. If you have a favorite author and know of a new title coming out, please let us know. Even as fast as I read, there are thousands of book reviews coming out every month, and having the public keep an eye out for their favorites is a big help!
The Library Board is meeting in Whitehall on August 18th at 6:30 PM. The public is always welcome to attend and give helpful suggestions or ideas. It will be at the Library and usually lasts about an hour.
