Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
The Friends of the Library will be meeting this Thursday, July 14th, at 5 PM. If you would like to join the Friends or just see what they are about, please come to the meeting. They do a variety of things in supporting the Library as well as volunteering during the week.
Summer lunches will continue until July 28th. They are free to any child under the age of 18 and are served Monday through Thursday from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. There is no sign-in or paperwork to fill out, just come, and enjoy lunch with us.
If you haven’t turned in your summer reading sheets yet, this is the time to finish the first one up and come enjoy a free movie pass or treats at the free movies. The Star Theatre is running a great lineup of children’s movies every Wednesday afternoon until July 27th. For a calendar of the different children’s movies as well as the western series on Thursday evenings at 7 PM, stop by the front desk.
On Wednesday, July 20th the Montana Science Center will be here all day! We have scheduled times according to age so that there is room for everyone and appropriate activities for each group. Preschoolers will start us off at 9:30 AM, Kindergarten-2nd grade at 10:30 AM, 3rd-6th graders at 11:30 AM, and then 7th grade and up at 1 PM. This is going to be a great time of science, fun, and learning all together!
Mystery Book Club will meet on Tuesday, July 19th, at 5 PM. We will be sharing all the new mysteries everyone has read during the month. This seems to be a second Renaissance in women mystery writers as I am finding more and more series. These include cozy mysteries, thrillers, historical mysteries, and more. Summer is a great time for popular authors to release new works and we are getting many of them each day. Come check out a favorite author or discover a new one.
My new discovery this summer are the books in the Dr. Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths. She is an archaeologist living in the Salt Marshes of England and always seems to be discovering bodies both ancient and current. I am also reading through Kate Carlisle’s Bibliophile series about a book restorer who keeps stumbling onto bodies in the strangest places. They are very different in tone; Griffiths is far more serious, but they are both great reads.
