Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
We are very excited about this year’s performance, for a couple of reasons.
First, though it was a fun experience playing outside on the green last year, we are looking forward to the energy and atmosphere of the theater again.
Secondly, we are trying something completely different this year. Our shows are typically a music performance with a mix of original songs and some covers. But this year we are producing a live radio drama - somewhere between an old-time radio show and Garrison Keillor’s “Prairie Home Companion.” Everyone was a little apprehensive about the idea but once we got started they were all in.
Radio is a familiar world to a couple of our residents. In fact, our own Joe Rebal hosts a 60’s rock show Sunday nights on Jefferson County Radio. But writing and performing a radio drama was new for the rest of us. Each house spent a little over a month creating its own storylines. Then we had to come up with characters and put in the dialogue. We also found some great classic songs to intersperse with the dialogue. We hope to get the audience singing along with us!
Of course, my favorite part of the Lights On series is always the community involvement. Each year we have members of the community join us in the endeavor. This year we have wonderful posters created by Casey Chase, as well as some special guests performing with us on stage.
We hope people can come out and join us for this free, family-friendly event. Thursday evening, May 19th, at the Star Theater. Do come and support the folks at Liberty Place as they try something entirely new. We promise that it will not be boring!
