Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
One of the best things about spring and summer is the new book explosion. In the last few weeks, I have ordered new books by Jacqueline Winspear, Fern Michaels, Lisa Scottoline, Kate Quinn, Janet Evanovich, and more. Summer blockbusters are always a parade of bestselling authors writing about their favorite characters or creating new ones. The books have started to come in so stop by and pick out your favorite.
On Wednesday, March 30th at 1 PM. Diane Ward and Glenna Waltee will be in the Library to share their expertise in gardening in Montana. For those of you who have just moved to the area or those who would just like to ask an experienced gardener for some free advice, this is the program for you. It is also a chance to ask about the Whitehall Garden Club and all the wonderful things they do.
We are beginning a new chapter with the 21st Century program and our afterschool activities. This week we begin a two-week study of Africa. The Safari Museum in Chanute, Kansas has a wonderful sharing program that includes sending out trunks of different everyday items from African countries. The museum is the home of adventurers Osa and Martin Johnson, who traveled around the world in the 1920s and 1930s. Martin was the first filmmaker to capture the roar of a lion in the wild in a movie. This will be a great unit and the public is invited. We have the classes divided into grades K-3 on Tuesdays at 3:45 PM and grades 4-8 on Thursdays at 3:45 PM.
April calendars will be out at the end of this week. We are looking at offering a sign language class for children and/or adults depending on the interest. If you would like to learn sign language basics, please give us a call, and sign up for the class. Time and dates will depend on the number of interested people and the age of the participants. We would like to do a class for both age groups.
For those of you who want to improve your mental capacity, Diane Jensen will be doing an abacus class in April for older seniors. Using an abacus may help with cognitive abilities as well as other mental stretching. If you know someone who would enjoy this brain-stretching exercise, please sign up at the Library or call 406-287-3763. The class has limited space so sign up early.
April is packed with programs, make sure to pick up a calendar and mark your favorites. If you have any questions about programs, please contact the Library or drop in anytime during regular business hours.
