Trojan Educator of the Week was Whitehall school nurse, Dorothy Simonsen. Dorothy was nominated by Barb Thronson for doing “an excellent job as a school nurse for K-12. She is very competent.”
Trojan Student of the Week was Brice Emerson, a sophomore at Whitehall High School. Brice was nominated by Debbie Sorensen for “working hard at trying new activities and developing some solid skills in Home Ec.” Brice is the son of Ben Emerson and enjoys football and hanging out with his friends.
Trojan Athletes of the Week were Melissa Gagnon and Angela Lofftus. Melissa and Angela are cheerleaders and most recently were in Big Timber cheering on the Lady Trojan Volleyball team. Melissa is the daughter of Donna and Larry Gagnon and plans to major in law in college. Angela is the daughter of Sharon and David Lofftus and plans to go to college to become an entrepreneur.
During a lengthy meeting in Boulder with nearly 50 people in attendance County Commissioner Sam Samson recommended the creation of a special committee to examine the issue of the evolving traffic safety questions and public policy dilemma of Highway 69 truck traffic. The committee specifically would like to see Highway 69 moved up on the priority list for improvement to be widened, installation of improved signage, and enforcement of existing speed limits.
The Jefferson County Commissioners denied the request by Kipp Huckaba at the Cardwell Store and Gold Mine Casino to extend its video gambling operations to 24 hours.
