Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 11/17/2021

We are in full Fall mode this week and there is no better way to celebrate the changing of the seasons than with Sweet Tea Tales on November 18th at 6:00 p.m. This month’s theme is Comics and Cheese. Enter your favorite cheese dish and bring a favorite comic or graphic novel to discuss. The contest is open to any budding chef and there are prizes for the winners.

Please mark your calendar for our Thanksgiving holiday hours. The library will be closed on November 25th and 26th then we will be open regular hours during the rest of the month. Enjoy the holidays with your families and remember to stock up on new books and videos for the long weekend.

This week I attended a workshop by the MSU Extension staff on Opioid and Stimulant Outreach, which highlighted Evidence-Based Youth Risk Behavior Prevention Programs. It was a great chance to learn about several programs which help youth and adults deal with prescription drug abuse. Did you know that 6.3 billion prescriptions are filled each year in the United States? The abuse of these medications being shared with others they are not intended for is unbelievable. The good news is there are many people trying to combat this problem in Montana. I had no idea there were so many different places for those in need to get help. If you would like information about some of these programs, please stop by the library.

Our melodrama students will be doing their performance on Monday, November 22, at 3:45 p.m. They have worked very hard writing, painting scenery, and learning their lines. The performance is open to everyone, so please come and support these amazing young people!

History Book Club will meet Monday, November 22 at 6:30 p.m. We are discussing the Victorian Era this month. I noticed the calendar said 6:00 but 6:30 works better with the painting class before it. You may read anything from 1836-1901 about anyone, anything, or any place during Victoria’s reign.

I want to take a moment and thank Rabbi Chaim for his wonderful program at the Holocaust Project last Wednesday. He shared the story of his family’s experiences to a packed house, and it really brought a human face to all the studying and learning these teenagers have done over the last year and a half.

If you have any questions about Library programming, please feel free to stop by and pick up a calendar or give us a call at 287-3763.
