Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
NOVEMBER 14, 1996
It may not yet be time to start singing “Jingle Bells,” but it is time to start thinking about how to make the holidays brighter for your neighbors in need. Whitehall area charitable organizations are kicking into full gear, preparing for the holiday season. The Whitehall Coats for Kids drive is on, the LDS Church is getting ready for a turkey dinner and a local business is sponsoring a food drive, both to raise food for the food pantry; the Headwaters Chapter of Hunters against Hunger is collecting food; and the Whitehall Food Pantry is making plans for holiday food distributions.
When a large band of motorcyclists roam the state each year in late June, Montana law enforcement officers watch – not with anxiety but with pride. That’s because the riders, many of whom are law enforcement officers themselves, are gathered for the annual Montana Lawmen 1000, an event started to raise money for the Montana Hope Project. The Montana Hope Project was established in 1984 by the Association of Montana Highway Patrol officers to make dreams come true for critically-ill children across Montana. The two-day 1000 mile motorcycle tour drew 296 riders from 54 Montana cities and ten other states for the seventh annual ride this summer. Together, the motorcyclists took pledges of $98,000 during the two days for the charity.
