Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
Nestled in the camp grounds of the Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park hides a secret; The Escape Cabin. For one day, the park rangers are hosting an escape room game in one of the rental cabins. This 40 minute adventure follows the exploits of Dr. Townsend, a fictional bat biologist, and his research of a very real problem for bats. The rangers wanted to educate players about Wet Nose Syndrome, a fungal infection that can be deadly to bat populations. So put on your thinking cap, whether you are a bat lover, or lover of escape rooms, you will enjoy this adventure.
Whitehall residents and former escape room owners Tim and Chiara Schober, their daughters Lilly and Amelia, and their friend Joshua Bartholomew succeeded with 3 minutes to spare. "I really liked being on the other side of an escape game. They did a great job creating a story and difficult puzzles," said Chiara. "They found the right balance of puzzles that were challenging enough to make it difficult, but still solvable without being frustrating. We still had to use our one hint, though," recounted Tim. Amelia added with air quotes, "I was really worried we were gonna 'die'. It took us a while to get going."
When you've successfully found the way out with research in hand, you can enjoy your newfound freedom and celebrate with a s'more or two. All ingredients and materials will be provided except for chairs, which escapees are encouraged to bring.
Due to the popularity of escape rooms, this one day event is already booked up. However, park ranger Emily Dickerson said there is a chance additional time slots will open up depending on the availability of the rental cabin. Tickets are $5 per person. To check time slot availability, call the park at 406-287-3541 or email Emily.Dickerson@MT.gov. Each game may have up to 6 participants.
