Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

East of the East Side Book Discussion at Museum

The Jefferson Valley Museum is hosting a discussion of the new non-fiction book "East of the East Side" with Christy Leskovar on the evening of Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 7:00 PM in the museum barn. Christy will be making her presentation via the internet from Las Vegas. A question/answer session will be included.

This is her third venture into finding and sharing her family history. Her first book, "One Night in a Bad Inn", includes a murder at the hotel in Renova, a once busy little community south of Whitehall along the Jefferson. Her second book, "Finding the Bad Inn: Discovering My Family's Hidden Past" continued the legacy. In "East of the East Side" the lives of her ancestors are unveiled from the late 19th to mid-20th centuries. The story takes you on a journey from peasant farms in the Slovenian region of Austria to Imperial Vienna and on to 1914 Paris. It continues into the early days of Helena, the smelter town of East Helena, the copper metropolis of Butte and the Slavic enclave of East Butte.

"This is such an American story," said Leskovar, "to go from the Paris opera to the Flathead Indian Reservation with rugged smelter towns in between. I found it fascinating."

There is no charge to attend, and seating will be limited. A skype link for those unable to attend will be available on the Jefferson Valley Museum's Facebook page.
