Creating Fiction from History: Party crashers

'Twas a soiree to remember!

This past Saturday evening in mid-July, the Gentlemen's Club of Jefferson County met, in a tent erected for this shindig, in the environs of Whitehall, Montana. This spectacular event had been organized several decades previous by Mr E.G. Brook himself (not pictured). Although Mr. Brook had long passed, many of his descendants were present, as well as the spirit of the late "Founding Father." As this was supposed to be a male-only event, and indeed was attended by many of the Jefferson River Valley's finest, in all their finery, imagine their surprise when several of the female persuasion showed up!

While the evening's host was quite aghast at the outrage, many of the attendees seemed unconcerned about the intrusion. Some seemed almost to welcome the intrusion. Maybe they thought the women were servers, cooks, or some such, but whatever the case, these party crashers sure made a hullabaloo! This reporter later found out that the offending parties had eluded the local authorities and bypassed those who were set guard over the perimeter, to make sure that none of those pesky womenfolk got in.

For those who might question why the authorities were so interested in these particular women; these women had somehow gotten it into their pretty heads that womenfolk should be allowed to vote, and such, just like us men. Can you imagine? They had slipped past the guards, in order to make such an impassioned plea to those in the high seats, but fate finally caught up to them. They were detained overnight in the local holding cell until their husbands came, somewhat reluctantly, to pick them up in the morning.
