Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
I was introduced to music at a very young age. My mom is an accomplished organ and piano player, who has taught for years. She taught me to appreciate classical, instrumental, and more traditional music. My dad, the Metallica, Ted Nugent, and ZZ Top rocker introduced me to rock and roll.
As we moved from state to state with the military, my music choices changed to "fit in" with my surroundings. My first concert was Garth Brooks with my mom. Then I moved on to an appreciation for a bit of rap (old school Salt n Pepa in the 1990s, nothing TOO hard). As the nineties progressed, I found Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, PJ Harvey, and Bush. My dad took me to my then-favorite band, Live, when I was in eighth grade (I still love them). My love and appreciation for music, of all types, is strong.
Upon moving to Montana, the local music festivals really caught me. Rockin' the Rockies became Rockin' the Rivers, Red Ants Pants gained popularity, and Country Jam (though I am not a huge country fan) called to me. It was the experience of live music that drew me in. Then I started with my own band - there really is nothing like live music.
When I woke up this past Tuesday morning, my friends of Facebook were posting about the Magic City Blues Festival in Billings. I hadn't ever heard of it, so I looked it up. Much to my surprise I see my current favorite band, Larkin Poe, will be there Friday night. Done! Tickets bought! Friday schedule cleared.
Along with one of my best friends, we were front and center - so close I could practically reach out and touch the stage. I haven't been that happy in ages - live music! My favorite band! My best friend! MUSIC!
Get out there people! Get some live music under your belt - safely, distanced, and masked if desired- but do it. It is so good for the soul. And go check out Larkin Poe. I guarantee, you won't be sorry you did.
