Whitehall Community Library: Opportunity for WHS Students

The Whitehall Community Library has been awarded a Teen Project Democracy grant of $5000. Whitehall, along with the public libraries in Missoula and Billings, are the three sites chosen for this year’s projects centered around Holocaust study. The project will be teen-led and is open to youth 14-17 years of age.

The Whitehall Community Library invites Whitehall School District students to participate from September 2021 to May 2022 in this leadership opportunity.

The requirements are as follows: each participant must sign a letter of commitment for the year, attend all nine monthly Book Discussion meetings and read an account of the Holocaust time period (books are provided by the Library), serve as member of one of the project committees, and participate in at least one of the projects. Teens may also chair all of the project committees with adult sponsors.

Projects will include a study of fake websites and how to authenticate the true information sources using the Stanford University method; a Rescuer/Survivor fair where participants will learn about a real person and then tell their story to the public; a trip to the Holocaust Museum in Bozeman; an information night at the library to share what they have learned about the Holocaust and it’s relevance to current times; plus any other ideas they initiate.

Any student interested in participating in the project may contact the Library at 287-3763 or stop by for further information. Only 20 spots total are available; ten places have already been filled by previous members of the Holocaust Discussion group.
