Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 6/30/2021

As everyone is looking forward to the Fourth of July holiday, I want to remind you that the Library will be closed on July 5th. We will be open on Saturday as usual. Please also be on the lookout for the many children who are arriving and leaving from programs. It is a busy time of year for us and we want everyone to stay safe.

If you have a young person interested in getting into the babysitting business, the Extension Office will be teaching a four week Babysitting clinic on Tuesday afternoons, starting July 6 at 1:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome but registration is required in order for there to be enough handouts and supplies for everyone. The clinic is free but the presenters need to know who is coming.

Emily Dickerson will be presenting the last of our hiking series on Wednesday evening, June 30th at 6:30 p.m. As her many fans know, Emily always has a fascinating program to share with everyone. This month she is looking at what to watch for along the local trails.

For all of our mad scientists, Robin will be doing STEM camp on Thursday, July 1 at 2:30.

Mark your calendars for a special Conversations on Water program on Wednesday, July14th at 6:30 p.m. The Conversations series is a wonderful set of programs on current topics sponsored by Humanities Montana. The program will include a set of three short videos on water issues then a guided conversation among the audience on the issues discussed in the video. Wednesday evenings have turned out to be a great time for adult programs, so watch for more!

Next week on July 7 at 10:30 a.m., Summer Reading will host Jill and her crew on weeds and other nasty plants. She is always a hit with the children and has great activities for all.

On July 8th, we will have a busy afternoon with our favorite cooking contest, Sweet Tea Tales at 3:00 p.m. The theme this month is “Picnics & Pioneers”. Emily Dickerson will be back to do a special program after the food testing. For more details, contact the Library at 287-3763 for the theme!

The MILP Summer Job Club will be meeting on Thursday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. beginning June 24th for students 14 or older, entering 9th-12th grade. The eight week program will help students prepare for getting and keeping a job.

This past week was the annual American Library Association convention. It was virtual this year and was a great opportunity for those in smaller libraries to attend. There were multiple on demand sessions and I have many ideas for great programs. The conference is letting attendees watch the sessions for the next several months so I will be busy making sure I see all there is to offer in the library world!
