Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Doris Jenkins, 88

Doris Jenkins, 88, died May 21, 2021, in Denver, Colorado from a short illness. Born in Butte, MT in the first month, 18th day of 1933, she was the 6th child of John and Blanche (Kendall) Hofbauer. A longtime resident of both Butte and Whitehall, Doris always had a smile to offer and was known for her kind and gentle soul: just don't make a mess in her house. She attended the Aldersgate Methodist Church in Butte and the Grace Methodist church in Denver and was a member of the Aracia Order of the Eastern Stars in Whitehall.

Doris met a young railroader while slinging hash at Al's Cafe. Doris married Don Jenkins in Butte on May 11, 1957. They had one son. Doris and Don lived in several states, but there was no place like Montana. Doris was a Montana gal to the core. She loved Montana and made it very clear there is no place like Montana.

Doris worked in several cafes in Butte and would often tell stories about "old Butte" and its characters. She knew them all. Later in life she enjoyed fishing. Nothing would please her more than out fishing the "boys", which she did often. When her son decided to start running, once again, Doris wouldn't be out done. They did a 5K together and she finished in 3rd place in her age group. In retirement, Don and Doris found the Butte winters a little too chilly and enjoyed fifth-wheeling in Yuma, AZ with her sister and brother-in-law.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Hazel Eddy, Sylvia Oehrle, Harriet Auvil and Helen Richter and by her brother, Al Hofbauer.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Don Jenkins of Denver Colorado, son and daughter-in-law and grandson, Jeff, Jill and Jacob Jenkins of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Three step children, Nikki Williams of Salt Lake City, Utah, David (Un Su) Jenkins of Graham, Washington and Susan Asher (Larry) of Camas, Washington along with nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, she would prefer that you share a smile, tell a joke and show some kindness. Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
