Congratulations Class of 2021! Over $100K in Scholarships Awarded

The Whitehall High School Class of 2021 graduated with all the pomp and circumstance they deserved on Sunday, May 23, 2021. In front of a full auditorium audience the 40 seniors made their way to their diplomas, beginning the next chapter of their lives.

Both Valedictorian Kathryn Whitehurst and Salutatorian Macee Patritti gave speeches, addressing their fond memories of their peers and their hopes for their successful future.

"Class of 2021, you have experienced a senior year unlike any other. This year has brought with it obstacles that students and schools have yet to experience in their lifetimes. With all the chaos and change, you focused on your tasks and worked hard to be where you are today. Your ability to embrace the change and remain focused on the task at hand will set you up for great things in the future. Congratulations graduating class of 2021! Go Trojans!" WHS counselor Casey Norbeck said after reading the classes cumulative scholarships.

Below are the awards as received by WHS at time of print.

Barrick Golden Sunlight - Requirements: Be a Whitehall High School graduate and be accepted to an approved school. Selection was based upon academic performance, leadership/citizenship, and career aspirations. Two (2) $750 awards: Kendra Klapan & Trentin Walker.

Cardwell Cougar Scholarship - Requirements: Attend Cardwell School for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Graduate from Cardwell School and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. $3000 awarded to Wyatt Biggers.

Dorothy Shaw Memorial - Dorothy Shaw bequeathed money to Whitehall High School and established The Dorothy Shaw Memorial Scholarship to recognize the Whitehall School Seniors for their academic achievement. An award given to seniors with a 3.0 GPA or higher who have 15 credits from English, Social Studies, Math, Science, or Foreign Language. This award was presented to Hayden Hoagland.

Whitehall Booster Club - Requirements: given to two seniors with a 2.75 GPA or better who have participated in at least 3 extracurricular activities. Wyatt Biggers, Meagan Johnson, Macee Patritti, and Trentin Walker were each awarded $250.

Whitehall American Legion Dennis Smith Memorial Scholarship - Requirements: This scholarship is offered to Whitehall High School seniors who are asked to write an essay answering the question What is a Veteran? And what role will America have in the future with many changing world events. This year's winner of the $1000 scholarship is Meagan Johnson.

Magris Talc USA Scholarship - Requirements: seniors who have shown outstanding achievement in academics, extracurricular activities, and community service/activities. The scholarships are based on student merit and financial need equally. Kendra Klapan and Macee Patritti were each awarded $500.

High Peaks Federal Credit Union Ron Wagner Scholarship - Requirements: Graduating high school senior accepted to an accredited Montana college, University or trade school; Applicant must also be a member of High Peaks Credit Union. Scholarship committee focused on community/school involvement and a written essay. $1000 was awarded to Meagan Johnson.

Mary Ann Maloney Larsen Award - Mary Ann Maloney Larsen was the Whitehall School Secretary for 35 years. She was involved in the lives of students from freshmen to their senior years. Founds hope this scholarship will propel a student into their future. Two awards of $1000 will be given to a graduating senior to be applied toward college tuition and fees. Wyatt Biggers was awarded this honor.

Whitehall Rotary Stewart Way - These scholarships are awarded annually to commemorate the life of Stewart Way, a respected Whitehall resident and former Whitehall Rotary Club member. These scholarships are made available through efforts of the Whitehall Rotary Club. Recipients were Kendra Klapan, Meagan Johnson, and Macee Patritti.

Sacry Scholarship - A scholarship was established to honor Carroll and Cora Sacry in recognition for the influence they & their descendants have had for more than 60 years at WHS. Requirements: Must have a GPA of 2.5 higher, 3 years of sports, or 2 years in sports and one in band. Kendra Klapan and Meagan Johnson each received $1000.

Whitehall Little Guy Wrestling Scholarship - Requirements: Awardees must be a high school wrestler, and be recognized as a role model for Little Guy wrestlers. Student must demonstrate assistance to the Little Guy program. Dallen Hoover and Trentin Walker each received $250.

Mariah's Challenge - The Mariah's Challenge Scholarship Program provides scholarships to Whitehall seniors who epitomize the ideals of Mariah's Challenge, which is dedicated to the prevention of underage drinking and promoting healthy adolescent lifestyles. The scholarships are based on the student's adherence to the challenge as well as their character and community commitments. The program is not based on grades, financial need or leadership/achievement. Meagan Johnson and Macee Patritti each received $400.

Whitehall High School Alumni Memorial Scholarship - A new scholarship was created this year by the Whitehall graduating class of 1994. This scholarship was set up in memory of: Jim McCrossin, Al Anderson, and Dan Reum, three educators, coaches, and mentors who had a huge impact on the lives of many students at Whitehall Schools. Two $2000 scholarships awarded to Meagan Johnson and Macee Patritti. Two $500 scholarships were awarded to Kendra Klapan and Hayden Hoagland.

Montana's STEM Scholarship Program - designed to provide an incentive for Montana high school students to prepare for, enter into, and complete degrees in postsecondary fields related to science, technology, engineering, mathematics and healthcare. The goal of this program is to increase the number of STEM degree recipients participating in Montana's workforce. Starts at $1000 and can reach $2000 by the 4th year. Kendra Klapan and Katie Whitehurst are the recipients.

Montana University System Honors Scholarship - The MUS Honor Scholarship is a 4-year renewable scholarship, which waives the recipient's tuition when used at an eligible campus. Its average value at a 4-year Montana campus is $5,000 a year or $20,000 for four years. Candidates are selected by taking GPA plus ACT/SAT scores to give students a composite score. Highest scores are awarded this scholarship. Katie Whitehurst was awarded this scholarship.

Montana Tech Vision Award: Mason Alexander, $1000

Oredigger Achievement Scholarship: Meagan Johnson, $1000

Oredigger Distinction Scholarship: Kendra Klapan, $3000

University of Montana Academic Achievement Scholarship for $3000; 2021 International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Scholarship Program for $1,000; and Vigilante Electric Cooperative Leadership Award for $500 - all awarded to Macee Patritti.

Scholarship to Rodeo at UM Western- Full Tuition Waiver & 1/2 room and board: Hannah Haverland

Half tuition paid for Football Scholarship at UM Western: Flint Smith

Modern Machinery Scholarship Highlands College, $2000: Trentin Walker
