WMS Trojans Track Finds Success with 35 Athletes

Middle School track started March 29th with a whopping 35 6-8th grade students out. Head coach Gayle Walter and Assistant Coach Trish Scarborough are thrilled with the turn out this year for track. The team is very diversified in sprinters, throwers, jumpers, and middle distant runners. Due to last season being canceled due to COVID-19, this was the first season for the 6th and 7th grade athletes.

The season started off with the Townsend Invitational Meet at the new East Helena facility. The athletes proved ready by being very successful in their first meet and enjoyed competing for the first time.

Boys 7th grade 4x100 and 4x200 relay team placed 2nd and 1st, respectively. The team consists of Dixon Koenig, Tucker Huckaba, K.T. Schuller, and Evan Welch. Tucker Huckaba also place 1st in the 800 and 2nd in the 1600 run. K.T. Schuller place 2nd in the 100 and Dixon Koenig placed 2nd in the 400 M Dash.

Hope Moriarty placed 1st in the 200 M Dash with a time of 32.22 in the 8th grade girls division.

The second meet was in Livingston on April 30th. The team did an outstanding job in their events, despite the 40-50 mph wind gusts.

Miles McLean placed first in the shot put. Annabelle Welch placed 1st in the long jump with a jump of 12'10", and the 7th grade boys, Koenig, Huckaba, Schuller and Welch, repeated their winning streak in the 4x100 with an improved time of 54.93. They also took first in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:58.89.

The 8th grade boys' relay team blazed to a second place win in the 4x100 relay with a time of 53.09. The relay team is made up of Ethan Wock, Sam Valov, Blake Becker, and Bridger Becker.

Eighth grade speedsters Blake and Bridger Becker also competed well in the 100 M Dash, while Ethan Wock threw the discus 77.6'. RJ Aragon placed 5th in the 100 M Hurdles. Dixon Koenig placed 2nd in the 400 with a time of 60.0.

The team will finish off their season with a rescheduled meet in Anaconda on May 5th.
