Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
The Cinnabar Foundation, Montana’s conservation fund, has hired a longtime conservation professional, Caroline Byrd, as its next executive director. Byrd will begin her new position on July 1 after spending time with the retiring ED, Gary Wolfe, to assure a smooth and successful transition.
Byrd’s career in conservation has spanned more than 35 years and has included many overlapping connections with the Cinnabar Foundation, a private independent foundation that supports conservation partners working to conserve, preserve and restore this region’s clear skies, clean water, and diversity of wildlife and wildlands. Most recently, Byrd served as executive director of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition. Prior to that she worked for The Nature Conservancy in Montana and The Wyoming Outdoor Council. She received both a law degree and a master’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Montana and has had extensive experience working with and serving on nonprofit boards.
Byrd said, “I’m thrilled to be joining the Cinnabar Foundation and helping to sustain and enhance conservation in Montana and the Greater Yellowstone. It’s a dream job for me and draws on my experience and passion for this remarkable place and its dedicated supporters.”
Cinnabar’s board president Gordon Brittan said he is delighted that Byrd will become a part of the foundation team: “Caroline has for years been a leader of the Montana conservation movement. She is articulate about its aims and extremely well equipped to help achieve them.”
