Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 4/28/2021

This week the Government 101 program will explore the differences and responsibilities of the Jefferson County Library Board and the Friends of the Whitehall Community Library Steering Committee. Diane Ward and Vaia Errett will be representing the Library Board, while Lorie Steerman and John Moulton will be here for the Friends Steering Committee. They serve different functions for the Whitehall Library but both are essential to the Library being able to provide the many services available to the public. The program will be at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday upstairs in the Adult area.

You may have noticed all of the lawn work happening in the front of the Library. The Friends have been cleaning and weeding in anticipation for the installment of our new benches. These benches were purchased with a TIFF grant and replace the old wooden bench, which was needing to be replaced. These will be a great area for patrons and others to stop and enjoy the shade in the summer.

Fans of the Hallmark Mysteries & Movies DVD’s will be excited to know that we have received several new sets in this series. The Library also has many of the print books which the movies were based on such as the Fixer-Upper series by Kate Carlisle, Hannah Swenson series by Joanne Fluke, Aurora Teagarden series by Charlaine Harris, and more. These are light cozy mysteries and movies for those who enjoy less graphic detail and more romance.

The spring book publishing rush is starting already. Many of the major selling authors have new books coming out in the next few months and I have been busy pre-ordering many of them. We have also had several arrive this month such as Ocean Prey by John Sandford and Spin by Patricia Cornwell. There are new releases by Jeffrey Archer, Amanda Flower, James Patterson, and more. Come check out the new book shelf for new ones every week.

If you are in the mood for some quick reads to take on vacation but don’t want to have to worry about taking library books out of town, the Friends Book Sale is open during regular library hours. They have a large selection of paperbacks, hardbacks, and movies for sale. The staff has been weeding out different sections of the library so there are currently a large number of children’s and nonfiction books in the sale.

May calendars will be out next week. May is traditionally the month the staff takes off our regular programming to prepare for summer reading. Check the calendar to see when your favorite programs will be happening in May. If you have any questions just give us a call at 287-3763. June calendars will be out as quickly as I confirm the final guest presenters. It is packed to the brim with programs for all ages so get ready for a busy summer at the Library!
