Lloyd Laughery, 74

Lloyd Irvin Laughery, age 74, of Sentinel Butte, North Dakota, formerly of Whitehall, Montana, passed away at St. Alexius Bismarck on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, May 7, 2021 at the United Community Church in Beach, North Dakota with Pastor Warren Maxted officiating. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, May 9, 2021 at First Christian Church in Whitehall with Pastor Michael Coombe officiating. Silha Funeral Home of Beach has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Lloyd was born on June 14, 1946 to Leroy and Helen (LaFurge) Laughery. He attended elementary school in Judith Gap, Montana, graduating high school in Fromberg, Montana in 1964. After high school, Lloyd attended college at the University of Montana in Missoula, Montana and received a degree in Forestry. He started his career as a Trails Coordinator with the U.S. Forest Service in 1967 in Lincoln, Montana. From there his career moved him to Wall, South Dakota in 1972 and Libby, Montana in 1975, finally settling in Whitehall, Montana in 1977, working for the Deerlodge National Forrest District until his retirement in 1995.

Lloyd spent his life ranching in conjunction with his career for the Forest Service raising Registered Angus Cattle. He sold his ranch in Whitehall in 2017 and moved to Sentinel Butte that June. Lloyd bought a small ranch there, enjoying his family, friends and neighbors.

Lloyd was an active member of the Christian Church in Whitehall and an active member of the United Community Church in Beach. He was always a positive influence in the local communities; donating his time to the local food banks, 4-H Clubs and FFA. Lloyd enjoyed reading about local, state and western history in his spare time. He was very fond of his peony flowers, often taking them into local people.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Helen; his sister, Lois and his brother, Roger.

Lloyd is survived by his sons, Shane (Becky) Laughery of Parshall, North Dakota and Dustin (Yvonnie) Laughery of Whitehall; his grandchildren, Brandon Laughery and Jackie (Keenan) Zeltinger of Parshall and Derrick Byrd of Nampa, Idaho; a sister, Leona (Garth) Bascom of Roundup, Montana; a brother, Levi (Julie) Laughery of Winston, Montana; his great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
