Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
I hope you all had a happy holiday weekend. The Library was able to make Easter a little brighter thanks to the Love, INC. organizations in Dillon and Whitehall. They provided 50 Easter baskets for the Library to pass out to children and their parents last week. Candy, games, toys, and more awaited the little ones during story time and after school. Thank you again to both groups!
April 4-10 is National Library Week! This year’s theme is “Welcome to Your Library” and Natalie Portman is the honorary chair. The award-winning actress has just published her first picture book entitled “Natalie Portman’s Fables”. She joins the American Library Association in celebrating a tradition that started in 1958 with the theme “Wake Up and Read!”. There are 16,568 public main libraries and branches in the United States; in total there are 116,867 different types of libraries in the same area. These include public, academic, school, special libraries, armed forces, and government libraries. This is great news as there are only 19,495 incorporated cities, towns, and villages in the United States so there are libraries in most cities and towns.
Many libraries are fortunate to have Friends organizations, including the Whitehall Community Library. These dedicated people do a multitude of things to support the Library including, raise funding for special projects, write grants, volunteer to assist staff in daily tasks, host receptions for special events, and more. If you would like to be a Friend of the Library, please let us know by stopping by the Front desk or give us a call at 287-3763. Also, the Friends logo contest ends April 15 so get your entries to the Library by then!
Beginning this Wednesday night, April 7th at 6:30 p.m. our Government 101 series will feature the director of a different department or an elected official. Seating will be limited so we are asking people to sign up who are planning to attend. The schedule is as follows: April 7 Leonard Wortman (County Commissioner), April 14 Bonnie Ramey (Clerk & Recorders Office), April 21 Terri Kunz (County Treasurer), April 28 Vaia Errett and Diane Ward (Jefferson County Library Board) with Lorie Steerman and John Moulton (Friends of Whitehall Community Library Steering Committee) and ending with May 5 Mary Janacaro Hensleigh (Mayor of Whitehall).
There are always many events and programs going on at your library. Calendars are available at the front desk and all programs are free and open to the public.
