Between the Stacks: 3/31/2021

The schedule is set for our Government 101 presentations in April. Each program will feature the director of a different department or an elected official on Wednesday nights at 6:30 p.m. Seating will be limited so we are asking people to sign up who are planning to attend. The schedule is as follows: April 7: Leonard Wortman (County Commissioner), April 14: Bonnie Ramey (Clerk & Recorders Office), April 21: Terri Kunz (County Treasurer), April 28: Vaia Errett and Diane Ward (Jefferson County Library Board) with Lorie Steerman and John Moulton (Friends of Whitehall Community Library Steering Committee) and ending on May 5: Mary Janacaro-Hensleigh (Whitehall Mayor).

Each presenter will discuss their position and department within the county or city. This will include how they became involved in county or city government, what their department does, and who to contact within their area for questions. The programs will last one hour and there will be time for questions from the audience. This is a chance for the Whitehall area patrons to meet their county/city officials and understand how their local governments work. With so much misinformation out there on civic issues, here is a chance to gain information from the source! Come join us at 6:30 p.m. and bring your questions.

We had exciting news this week: Kyle Groves, the son of Mr. E. the Magician, has taken over for his father and will be in Whitehall at the Library this June!! There were many sad faces when they had to cancel their tour last summer, but Kyle is ready for a new season of magic tricks, jokes, and laughter. Our favorite puppeteer, Markie Scholz, is also coming back with a brand-new show in July.

Summer reading is almost set for the summer. The staff has been busy thinking of new ways to explore this year’s theme of “Tales and Tails”. Watch for more information in the coming months.

Speaking of reading, do not forget to turn in your winter reading sheets by the end of this week. Those of you who have been working on our winter reading program may come in and claim your free lunch at Subway. We have seen many readers the last three months finish their 16 hours of reading and enjoy a great meal. Thank you, Subway, for hosting our contest!!
