This week has been loaded with decisions, big and small, important and mundane for me.
Do I get the COVID-19 shot?
Do I dye my hair to cover that little stupid gray strand?’
Should I check my oil today or can I make it one more trip to Bozeman without worrying about it?
Do I make the paper bigger by four pages each week, and if I do, can I handle that?
So many decisions, so little time. Wouldn’t it be great if the voices in our heads guiding us to make the decisions could also foretell the future and all the problems that come with the decision being made? I know, wishful thinking.
No matter what decision we make for ourselves, there always seems to be someone else who has an opinion on our decision. Either that, or we worry ourselves to death about what someone else will think with our choice.
It never gets easier.
Did I get the COVID shot? Yes, but I’ve heard from several friends who think I shouldn’t have.
Did I get rid of that gray strand? Not yet, but my inner child is screaming at me not to get old and give in to gray!
Did I check my oil? No, and I bet I hear from my husband about it soon.
Did I make the paper bigger? Not yet, but I already wish I had. Always next week...
Adulting never seems to get easier, especially when you add children, car and house payments, medical issues and bills to the mix.
That’s one reason why this week’s front page story is why or why not locals have decided to get the COVID-19 vaccine. That decision is hard for many to make. I will admit, I was scared to death today to get the shot. I told my son a few extra times that I loved him as I dropped him off to school, even thought about calling my loved ones and just saying hi before getting the shot.
Probably overkill on my part, but no one can 100% predict what will happen in any medical circumstance. But I made a decision. For myself. Not for anyone else to weigh in on. A decision made just for me.
I hope that everyone who reads the Why or Why Not? article realizes that those who responded made decisions, hard decisions, that they felt were best for themselves and their beliefs. There is no wrong answer on this subject. We do what we do because we feel it’s right within ourselves. Our decisions should be ours and ours alone, though that never seems to be the case.
Now I think I’ll go dye my hair...
