Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
MARCH 14, 1996
A 36-space seasonal recreational vehicle park at the Cardwell Store received a recommendation for approval from the Jefferson County Planning Board March 6. The matter now goes to the County Commission where approval is expected soon. Construction will begin as soon as weather permits and the facility could be in use by June, developer Kipp Huckaba said.
Three girls and two boys have been selected to represent Whitehall High School at the 1996 Boys State and Girls State conventions. Bob Henningsen (son of Bob and Elaine Henningsen) and Matt Mulligan (son of Tim and Andrea Mulligan) will be delegates to Boys State, scheduled for June 2 – 8 in Dillon. Shaunda Glaus (daughter of Ken and Linda Glaus) and Megan Bowers (daughter of Kevin and Pam Timberlake) were selected as delegates and Keli Mabbott (daughter of Brent and Sandi Mabbott) as alternate for Girls State, to be held June 9 – 15 at Carroll College in Helena. Sponsored statewide by the Montana American Legion and its Auxiliary, the events are intended to help students understand state and local government and how it works.
Yoga is not “strange people twisting themselves into knots and pretending it’s relaxing,” says yoga instructor Christopher Borton. To prove his point, Borton plans to offer a free class and demonstration March 16 at the Karate Club, next to the Corner Store in Whitehall. “Even in our small rural towns, many of us lead stressful or sedentary lives,” said Borton, a certified instructor and director of the Sage Mountain Center 13 miles west of Whitehall. “I’ve found yoga to be the best way to exercise and relax the entire body,” he said.
Safety has apparently paid off for T-G’s IGA in Whitehall. Bill Stevens, President of the Montana Food Distributors Assoc., presented T-G’s owner Gary Loghry with a check for $5,800 March 11. The check represented two things – an effective safety program at the store and a switch from the state workers’ compensation program to private coverage purchased through the state association. Stevens said his group was the first major association to take advantage of 1993 legislation that allowed groups to purchase workers’ compensation coverage from private providers.
