Ledger: Looking Back 25 Years - February 15, 1996

FEBRUARY 15, 1996

It looks as if it will be possible to reconstruct the Whitetail road mostly within the existing right of way, Commissioner Leonard Wortman said during Thursday’s regular county commission meeting. It may be necessary to go ten or fifteen feet outside of the existing right of way in some places, and perhaps a bit more in one area where a curve would be eased, Wortman said. But it apparently will be possible to reconstruct the road without taking up as much private land as thought earlier, he said. . . .

Split Diamond Ranch of Whitehall exhibited the first place pair of purebred Braunvieh bulls at the 1996 National Braunvieh Pen Show. The show, held in Denver in conjunction with activities at the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo, attracted a full house of spectators as 14 pens of Braunvieh cattle were paraded before judge Jim Brown of Lodge Grass, MT.

The Whitehall School Board voted Wed., Feb. 1, to sell two acres of land to the city with an understanding that the sale is conditioned on the city’s water improvement project going forward. . . . The board agreed to accept $5,000 for two acres the city plans to use as a water reservoir site. The city must pay for all surveying and closing costs on the sale and the sale is contingent on the water project proceeding without being stopped by action of the city council, the courts, or the voters.
