Tree Permits online

This year, due to COVID-19, the issuing of Christmas Tree Permits by the Forest Service can now be completed on-line at http://www.recreation.gov/tree-permits. Although there is no charge for the permit, (up to three trees per permit), there is a processing fee of $2.50. The holiday tree permit fees continue to help support the "Every Kid Outdoors" Program. If any member of the public has a difficult time navigating the website or does not have access to the technology required to obtain and print a permit, the Dillon, Butte, and Madison District office Front-liners of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest are available to help. The public can call any of these District offices, regardless of where they live in order to have the permit mailed, emailed, or schedule a time to pick it up at the front entrance. The permit does need to be displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle when out in the forest harvesting a tree and although BDNF personnel are following COVID protocols and procedures, they want to emphasize that they are always here to serve their public and their forest.
