In their daily update on September 15, the Jefferson County Health Department reported three active cases of COVID-19. By September 18 the number had increased to ten and on September 21 the department reported a rise to 21 active cases. The number was at 17 on Tuesday afternoon.
According to department officials, Jefferson County has experienced its first cluster, which is defined as "an aggregation of cases grouped in place and time". The cluster was identified in a residential facility.
Molly Carey with the Jefferson County Health Department said Tuesday morning they are not releasing the name of the facility at this time.
The statewide report issued Tuesday from the Governor's Coronavirus Task Force showed the age breakdown for 10 of the new cases in Jefferson County. The ages listed for the cases is four aged 30-39, three age 20-29, one 10-10, one 0-9 and one aged 70-79.
The breakdown of cases in Jefferson County includes 66 total cases, 17 active cases, 49 recovered cases. There have been no reported hospitalizations or deaths.
A release from the county states they are worried about the uptick in cases since September 15.
"We ask the public to remain vigilant, assess the risk, and do the things to control the spread of COVID-19 that we have been discussing over the past 6 months," the release states.
