Senior captains shine in Bozeman

The senior captains on the Whitehall High School wrestling team led by example at last week's Tom LeProwse Bozeman Invitational.

According to Assistant Coach Steve Sacry, Mike Wilkinson, Riley Forcella, and Gaten Wassberg each had personal best performances and earned seventh place medals at the tournament that had some of the best wrestlers in the state and included teams from Wyoming and South Dakota.

On his way to the seventh-place finish at 132 pounds, Wilkinson beat wrestlers from Billings Skyview, Three Forks, Laurel, and Great Falls High School. Wrestling at 152, Forcella had wins over opponents from Butte, Great Falls CMR, Rapid City, Huntly Project, and Billings Senior. Wassberg wrestled at 170 and had wins over wrestlers from Helena Capital, Bozeman, Butte, and Great Falls High School.

Sacry added others to show excellent improvement were Alleck Holloway, Dawson Powers, and Dallen Hoover.

Members of the Trojans team also competed at a complimentary tournament Saturday with great showings.

Dallen Hoover and Miles Hoerauf finished in first, Powers and Cody Best finished second, and Michael Reiff and Gavin Watson were third. Tommy Emerson, Kyle, Denny, and Holloway finished fifth. Dane Hoover was sixth, Gage McMillan was seventh, and Jesse Rios finished in eighth.

Sacry feels the team is set up well for the next week of competition. Several members of the team will have matches Thursday in Three Forks, and the team will travel to Cut Bank for a two-day tournament.

"This will be another tournament of about 30 teams, although most will be class B teams. We expect to represent Whitehall well," he said.
