Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
The Whitehall High School boys basketball team will look to pick up their first win of the season at this week's Manhattan Tip-Off Tournament.
The Trojans are scheduled to play Great Falls Central Friday, December 13 at 1:30 p.m. at Manhattan High School, and will play Deer Lodge, Saturday, December 14 at Noon at Manhattan Christian High School.
Whitehall opened the season last Saturday with a 90-51 road setback against defending Class C State Champion Manhattan Christian.
Trojans head coach Zach McLean said the Eagles were a veteran team that played very well together and had three of the best guards they will face all season.
"Their guard play is phenomenal, they share the ball and they compliment each other very well," he said.
After trailing 24-10 at the end of the first quarter, Whitehall would trail 43-25 going into the break.
McLean felt his team showed their youth but did show some positives.
"I thought when we got into the half-court, we did a decent job getting into our actions. They all played with effort. When you play a team of that caliber you have to bring the fight to them, and we played a little tentative," he said.
With two games this week, McLean wants to Trojans to keep grinding and to put emphasis on taking care of the basketball.
"We have to stay positive and keep building. We talked about the climb and the journey, just getting better and focused on that each day," he said.
