Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
Longtime Whitehall Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jeremy Ward has resigned from his position.
The Whitehall Town Council approved his resignation at their monthly meeting on Monday. Ward has served in the position for 7.5 years. He has taken a management position with the State of Montana in Butte and will remain as a volunteer for the department. According to Whitehall Clerk/Treasurer Summer Fellows, Joe Granvold will serve as fire chief until the department holds elections in January.
The Council also approved a contract for a settlement agreement with HardDrives Inc. As part of the contract, HardDrives will re-chip seal the full length and width of First, Division, and Main Streets.
Town Attorney Ed Guza said they were very happy that they reached an agreement for HardDrives to reseal the streets at their own expense.
"I think it is a great outcome," he said.
Councilmember Roy McBride said they wanted to get cash from the company, but that was probably not going to happen.
The agreement states HardDrives must complete the work by July 17, 2020, and give the Town of Whitehall two-weeks notice prior to starting the project.
The Council approved a two-year contract to retain Guza as Town Attorney. McBride said the town is currently in a lawsuit and that is reason enough to stay with Guza until they have the mattered settled.
Outgoing Council members Housman and Francine Giono were both recognized at the end of the meeting for their service to the Town of Whitehall.
