Whitehall voters select three council members

In unofficial results from the November 5 general election, voters in the Town of Whitehall cast their ballots for three new members of the Whitehall Town Council.

According to Jefferson County Election Administrator Bonnie Ramey, no candidates filed to run prior to the election for a two-year year term in Wards 1 and 2. In last Tuesday’s election in Ward 1, Pat Petersen received the highest write-in vote total with two. Current council member Logan Reiff also received two votes but was already re-elected by acclamation to the governing body earlier this year for a four-year term. Ramey said there are also two provisional votes in Ward 1, adding those votes could be counted this week.

In Ward 2, Katy James was the top vote-getter on the ballot with three votes, but like Reiff, was elected by a four-year term by acclamation in September. Since James is already on the Council, the write-in candidate with the most votes for the position was Tom Rice.

Ramey said the results would be certified this week and the candidate with the most votes in Wards 1 and 2 would have to accept the position and pay a filing fee before coming members of the Council.

In Ward 3, Maxine Samuelson had a total 31 votes and Shawn Hoagland had a total of 15. Samuelson told the Ledger last month she would not accept the position due to personal reasons and encouraged residents to vote for Hoagland.
