Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
On the third day of the Rockin' the Rivers Festival near Three Forks, those in attendance were able to enjoy the sounds of Crashdown Butterfly of Seattle, a band with ties to Southwest Montana.
The bass player for the band is Bobby Lyman who is a graduate of Whitehall High School.
Shortly after the bands set last Saturday, Lyman said coming home is awesome and playing at the festival allowed him to kill three birds with one stone.
"I get to go fishing which I'm addicted to, I get to see my family, and I get to play music which is awesome," he said.
Lyman currently resides in Seattle and also spent time in San Diego when he was in the United States Navy. He said leaving the large city and coming home is great, especially because of the scenery which he described as unbelievable.
Bandmate and singer and guitarist Ira Merrill also enjoyed being able to play at the festival. Merrill said he lives in the middle of Seattle because it is close to his job the population has doubled in the last couple of years and his rent has increased $700. He was enjoying the stark contrast of a show and the lifestyle in Montana.
"It's awesome and I don't want to go home," he said.
While on stage, Merrill said he told the audience that it was the weirdest thing to be able to drive to the venue and witness the scenery.
While Lyman was enjoying the break from the driving and huge population of Seattle, he said he moved to the area because there was a music venue on at least every block.
He was able to join Crashdown Butterfly which also includes drummer Steve Gale. Merrill described the music of Crashdown Butterfly as 70's rock meeting 90's style.
Lyman said it is poppy, but also heavy and praised the breakdowns included in the music by the band's songwriters.
