Welker wins 2 at 2019 state tennis tournament

Whitehall High School junior Britney Welker picked up valuable experience for next season while competing at last week's Class B State Tournament at Montana State University in Bozeman.

Welker went 2-2 at the tournament and according to head coach Kerry Sacry competed very well in what he called a very difficult draw. He added most of the tournament was moved indoors because of weather.

Welker opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2, victory over Lindsay Nefzger of Wolf Point. Welker fell in the second round 6-3, 6-3, Emily Clotfelter of Fairfield. Welker rebounded with a 6-3, 6-2, win over Sophia Delvo of Darby. Welker was eliminated from the tournament with a three set loss to Emily Bonner of Big Fork.

Sacry said two of the state placers are girls Britney had defeated during the season and he is looking forward to her having a successful season in 2020.
