Set the date for 'Lights On' 3

With the production a week away, the Music Ensembles at Liberty Place are excited about hosting their third annual "Lights On" concert.

The production is scheduled to take place Thursday, May 23 at the Star Theater in Downtown Whitehall. The popular local event will kick off with an art show and reception starting at 5:45 at the Borden's Conference Room. The concert is scheduled to start at the theater at 7 p.m.

David Parker of Liberty Place said in the past two years they have had a conglomerate of songs – some about life with an acquired brain injury and some songs that are just plain fun.

"We will definitely be keeping it fun but decided to go with a theme this year: 'Changes: From Out of the Darkness'. We chose songs that deal with the profound changes the men and women of Liberty Place have confronted post brain injury. There will be songs we've written and songs we've adapted, as well as some spoken word pieces," he said.

Because the ensemble is sharing their performance with the local residents, Parker feels it is very important for them to have the community involved. In 2018, the ensemble worked with Whitehall musical director Janet Heilig to allow middle school students to be part of the show. Parker said they are once again privileged this year to have Heilig and her students once again on stage.

Parker added volunteer Barb Liem has also been busy working on the visual arts portion of the program with work related to the chosen theme and idea of changes. The art show and reception will feature work and handmade items for sale from both Liberty Place facilities in Whitehall, as well as the location in Belgrade. There will also be hor d'oeuvres and refreshments served.

"I know this is a busy time of year, but this is something we are excited about doing for the community and it is FREE! Please come learn about the Liberty Arts Project and Liberty Place. Donations will be accepted with all contributions going to the Liberty Arts Project. Hope to see you there," Parker said.
