Reduction in force set for September 30

Barrick Gold officials are anticipating a reduction in force at the Golden Sunlight Mine on September 30.

At a Community Transition Advisory Committee meeting last week, Mine General Manager Dan Banghart said an email was sent to employees April 10 informing them of the anticipated September 30 RIF.

Banghart reported the end of life for the underground would be in late April April and they are anticipating shutting down operations in the mill in the latter half of May.

Barrick Gold announced at the end of March a final mill run to process gold ore at Golden Sunlight would take place in May.

There are currently 53 Barrick employees and 108 contract employees at the site.

Banghart told committee members they would continue with exploration work in the Apex area.

Banghart said after the underground and mill are closed employees would be doing cleaning at the mine and they would also be selling assets. He added two paramount issues to him personally are the stewardship of the property and community engagement.
