Spring cleanup next week

For Mayor Mary Janacaro Hensleigh, the annual Town of Whitehall Spring Cleanup is her favorite week of the year.

This year's event is scheduled to take place April 23 to 26. Janacaro Hensleigh said the event is extremely important for the town's appearance, especially for visitors.

"First impressions say a lot. A clean town speaks volumes," she said.

Local high school students will once again be taking part in the cleanup event that was started in the 1980's. Underclassmen will be participating Tuesday to Thursday and seniors will be taking part in the cleanup on Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"I think it's such a good learning experience for the kids," Janacaro Hensleigh said.

Along with the students helping out, she stressed the importance of the event for all residents and said it is a good time to work on alleys and to consider adopting an alley.

The Town of Whitehall is also offering special pick-ups for appliances with doors removed and extra debris. Pickups can be scheduled by calling 287-3972.

Janacaro Hensleigh also lauded the work done by the Whitehall Waste Transfer site during the week.

"We couldn't do it without them," she said.
