Work continues on bus barn

The projected completion date for Whitehall Transportation's Dick Gustin Memorial Bus Barn is set for late May or early June.

According to WPT Director Paula Hippert ,the project incurred a small setback due to the winter weather. She said Jay Fortune Construction is back at it and things are progressing nicely.

A ground-breaking ceremony took place Monday, December 10 for the facility located at 1173 HWY 55 in Whitehall. The 3,200 square foot facility will feature a four-bay bus barn that will accommodate offices and a passenger waiting area.

"What a wonderful addition this transportation facility will be for the town of Whitehall. The vehicles will be stored in a warm, safe environment where they can be kept clean and have easier morning startups. After four years of planning, Whitehall Public Transportation is excited to see this dream become a reality," she said.

Hippert also wanted to remind local residents of the services offered by WPT.

She said WPT provides free, local shopping on Tuesdays and Fridays beginning at 10:30am.

"This is a door-to-door service which will transport you to anywhere in town to go shopping, pick up mail, prescriptions and any other errands you need to do. This service has become quite popular and is a time of socialization for many," Hippert said.
