Trojans host Gardiner Friday

With the 5B District Tournament two weeks away, the Whitehall High School boys basketball continues to work hard in anticipation of postseason play.

In action this week, The Trojans (5-9, 3-5 5B) will host Gardiner Friday and will hit the road Saturday for a matchup against Manhattan.

"This is the time of year where you have to be fine tuning some things to get better," said Head Coach Zach McLean. "It is important for us to all be engaged in practice and focus on everything we want to do."

Whitehall dropped a pair of games last week to the two top teams in the 5B District.

The Trojans fell on the road 52-35 at Three Forks. The Wolves would come out strong and take a 17-4 lead at the end of the first sparked by three pointers by Colter Miller and Payden Lynn. McLean said the three pointers changed the way his team had planned to play on defense, and while they tried to simulate the Three Forks pressure from their man to man defense, his team was a little shell shocked and didn't recover early.

McLean told his team they may get a third shot at Three Forks and he was proud of the way they fought including a 16-1 run in the fourth quarter.

Cade Briggs led the team is scoring with seven, Clay Wolfe, Dylan Smith, and Kenize Hugulet each had six, Hayden Hoagland added four points, and Flint Smith and Brendan Wagner each finished with three.

The Trojans dropped a Saturday home contest 65-42 to undefeated and the second ranked team in the state Big Timber.

Wolfe led the team with 14, Briggs had 11, Hoagland added eight, Wagner finished with six, Flint Smith had two and Dylan Smith finished with one.
