Council approves ordinance letter

The Whitehall Town Council approved Monday a generic letter that will be sent to residents who are in violation of town ordinances.

According to Town Clerk/Treasurer Summer Fellows, the letter will notify the resident of a ordinance violation, will advise them to contact the town, and will include the amount of days they will have to take action before they will be fined or further action is taken. Fellows said the idea of the letter is to give residents a chance to make everything okay.

The governing body also approved to hire a third public works employee in the spring. The town would like to have the employee starting by April 1 and will soon start advertising the opening. Council member Gary Housman said the new employee should have a CDL so they will be able to operate the garbage truck.

Mayor Mary Janacaro Hensleigh reminded residents there will not be garbage service next Monday because of a holiday. She said garbage will instead be picked up Tuesday, January 22. She added residents need to pull in their garbage cans after they have been collected for the week.

The town also approved to hire Steve Andersen as the new Whitehall Justice Court Judge. He will be paid $1,000 a month plus mileage. The court will meet the first and third Tuesday of the month at 9:30 a.m.
