Lady Trojans defeat Big Timber, move to 6-0

With a 51-42 win last Thursday night on the road against Big Timber, the Whitehall High School girls basketball finished the 2018 portion of their schedule with a perfect 6-0 record.

Trailing 13-10 at the end of the first quarter, The Lady Trojans (6-0, 3-0 5B District) would outscore the Lady Herders 21-8 in the second quarter to take ten-point lead into the half.

"Any win you get on the road is a good win, especially against one of the top teams in the conference," said head coach Kelly Nieskens. "We are finally starting to believe in our potential. Each game we are really trying to focus on turning the ball over less."

Whitehall had to go with a younger lineup because of injuries, and Nieskens thought eighth grade starters Jada Clarkson and Maxine Hoagland played really well.

"Maxine did a great job rebounding and Jada had her best game yet," he said.

Clarkson led the team with 21 points. Byrnna Wolfe finished with 12, Asha Noyes was also in double figures with 10 and Hoagland added two points.

The team will next play January 3 when they host Twin Bridges.

Nieskens said the team will be putting in a few new things offensively over the break.

"There's times where we get stagnant and need help scoring consistently," he said.
