Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
Maxine Hemund left a 99 year legacy of a life well-lived.
Born in 1919, Maxine Hemund was raised in a ranching family in Franklin, MT. She was the second-to-youngest in a family of 11 children. Despite growing up during The Depression, her childhood was filled with love and laughter. Her family relocated to the Belgrade area when she was in the second grade. She lived there until she went to college in Dillon MT to become a teacher.
As a young teacher, her new career brought her to Cardwell, MT. It was there that she met her husband, George Hemund. The couple was married shortly before George was deployed during WWII.
Post-War, the couple settled in Cardwell on the family ranch where they started their family soon after. Maxine was the proud mother to Debby, Vic, and Tammy. During that time, she worked as a ranch-wife, teacher, and the Cardwell Post Master.
Maxine was blessed with six granddaughters and twelve great-grandchildren, who lovingly and accurately called her "Grandma Great." Beyond her immediate family, she was beloved by her large extended family, including numerous nieces and nephews.
A staple in the Cardwell and Whitehall communities, Maxine was a state officer in Eastern Star and a regular at both dance and card clubs. She also served as a Foster Grandmother into her 90's for the Whitehall School.
Maxine was steadfast in her faith in the Lord. We can rejoice to know that she is reunited with so many loved ones in Heaven. She lived a humble and grateful life. She could ride a horse, plow a field, and bake the best apple pie you've ever tasted. Until her last breath, she greeted everyone with a smile.
Maxine passed away December 17, 2018.
The service to celebrate Maxine's life will be held in the Cardwell School Gymnasium on December 27th at 11am. A luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local school in honor of Maxine's dedication to education.
Maxine is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Debby and Chris Wagner, daughter Tammy Andie; Grandchildren: Heather and Jared Lovshin, MiRanda Foley, Heidi and Jo Trudgeon, Shana and Bridger Stratford, Coco Martinson, Kammy and Blake Meyers; 11 great-grandkids: Ryson, Aspen, Finley, McKale, Tayla, Neah, Karcher, Lexi, Marley, Dempsey, Alyssa; and a large extended family.
