Trojans find success at large meet

The Whitehall High School wrestling team once again shined against a high level of competition at last week's CMR Tournament in Great Falls.

The Trojans placed 18th out of 54 teams in a field that included a large number of Class AA teams and a total of 450 wrestlers.

Assistant Coach Steve Sacry said at this size of a tournament and all the wrestling that takes place on Friday, it is excellent to advance to the second day. Whitehall had six wrestlers advance to Saturday action. Connor Johnson finished fourth out of 39 wrestlers at 138 pounds, and Dawson Powers placed sixth out of 34 wrestlers at 113 pounds.

Tommy Emerson, Trentin Walker, Mike Wilkinson and Dallen Hoover also advanced to Saturday wrestling at the field that also included a large number of Class A teams.

Sacry said the wrestlers that didn't advance to the second day's competition were entered into a second tournament at Great Falls High School. Whitehall wrestlers competing were Alleck Holloway, Gage McMillan, Dalten Denny, Brody Becker, Garris Robertson, Jamus DuBois, Gaten Wassberg, Jimmy Best and Cody Best.

Wassberg was able to finish in first and Holloway placed third. Cody Best and Dubois both finished in fourth place.

"These big tournaments and long weekends are taxing, but it's good to see the progression of the technique and stamina that develops. The wrestlers continue to improve in all aspects of the sport," Sacry said.

Whitehall has added one more event prior to the Christmas break. The Trojans will wrestle Friday night at an Anaconda duals event.

"It's fun to wrestle in their 'snake pit', as there are always many Whitehall fans to add their noise and support," Sacry said.
