Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
It was a busy week of action for the Whitehall High School track team.
The packed schedule began with two Trojan athletes shining amidst tremendous competition last Tuesday at the Russ Pilcher Top 10 Track and Field Meet in Missoula.
Senior Braden Smith finished second in the triple jump, and junior Max Feight finished fifth in the 300 hurdles at the 20th annual meet that features the top competitors from all classes in the western side of Montana.
Smith had a jump of 42' ½". The first place finisher was Class AA competitor Elias Dewaters of Missoula Sentinel High School with a leap 42' 4.5".
Feight finished with a time of 42.10. Drew Deck of Glacier High School (Kalispell) won the race with a time of 40.64 seconds.
"I was extremely impressed with the outcome of Braden and Max competing in the Top 10 meet in Missoula yesterday (April 24). Going up against the top 10 best in the western part of the state can be very nerve racking and they showed up and performed," head coach Dan Lacey said. "That's what is so much fun about competition, being able to perform your best against the best is what you strive for and our athletes did that yesterday."
The full Whitehall squad would travel Thursday to the Park Invite in Livingston and Saturday to the Manhattan Christian Invite in Billings.
"I thought we competed well this weekend. We had a lot of personal records and that's exciting heading into the final week of the season," Lacey said.
The boy's team finished third out of 11 teams in Livingston. They finished fourth out of 15 teams Saturday.
"On the boys side, Braden Smith and Cade Briggs continued to have solid distances in the jumping events. Cade qualified in the long jump for state and has also been throwing the javelin very well. Max Feight has continued to excel in the hurdles and sprinting events and Wyatt Alexander is starting to get healthy again and his sprinting times have gotten better each race," Lacey said.
The Lady Trojans also had some great marks over the week, with strong performances by Alexys Mercer and Asha Noyes.
"Alexys continues to get better each week placing in both the shot and discus. Asha is also performing very well in the long jump and triple jump," Lacey said.
