Editorial: Spring Cleanup A Boon to Whitehall

Every year prior to summer , residents from Whitehall come together to help tidy up the town with the annual Spring Clean up.

This is not only a great way for the community to get the town looking great for the warmer months; it is a wonderful way to show pride in the community.

This edition of the Ledger falls in the middle of the clean up, and town officials should be applauded for putting this together every year.

Mayor Mary Janacaro Hensleigh has spearheaded this event for many years and her passion to keep Whitehall looking good is something special to see from an elected leader. She takes pride in the way Whitehall looks and this is infectious with other residents in the town limits.

The students and staff at Whitehall High School should also be commended for their participation. Anyone who has driven around town this week has probably seen students working hard throughout the day to pick up garbage, rake leaves, and other helpful chores around town. This is an amazing way to teach local youth about taking pride in where they live. Some of them may move away after they graduate from high school or college, but this certainly can plant a seed to carry on this type of behavior wherever they end up.

There are often times people in the community will argue over a hot button issue, but one thing almost everyone could agree with is that there is nothing wrong with a little hard work to make Whitehall look great.

Thanks to all the students, residents, town employees, transfer station employees and everyone else who helped.
