Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
Often times the pages of a small-town newspaper are full of articles and pictures for high school sporting teams and this is certainly the case in the Ledger. I also feel it is very important to recognize some of the other great things going on at local schools and there is no better place to start than with the Whitehall Schools Music Department.
Last week was a phenomenal one for the department. Not only did they host seven teams at a middle school music festival, the high school music department was notified they were recipients of a $2,000 GRAMMY Signature Schools Award. The middle school also received a $250 “One Class At A Time” award from Montana Tech and a Butte news station. Having these three things happen in one week says so much about the music department. Each is very noteworthy on their own, but having them happen so close together shows the local music department is being recognized for their accomplishments.
Department Director Janet Heilig, the administration and staff, and of course the students should all be proud of the great working they are doing with music department.
The community should be very proud they department represents the local community in the best way possible. I’d like to also encourage residents to go see the students perform – it is well worth it.
