Three file for Justice of the Peace opening

Three weeks into the filing period for seven open seats in Jefferson County, there is only one race with multiple candidates.

In a list obtained last week from Jefferson County Election Administrator Bonnie Ramey, Steve Andersen, Dean Hildebrand, and Whitehall resident Kevin Brunet have all filed to run for the Jefferson County Justice of the Peace opening. The elected official will take over for longtime Justice of the Peace Dennis Giulio.

Currently, Jefferson County Commissioner (District 3) Bob Mullen, Clerk/Recorder/Assessor Ramey, Attorney Steve Haddon, Superintendent of Schools Anika McCauley and Treasurer Bonnie Kunz are running unopposed.

The primary election is scheduled for June 5 and the general election will take place November 6. The deadline to file closes March 12.
