Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
There have been plenty of positives in the first six games of the season for the Whitehall High School boys basketball team.
The Trojans will enter the 2018 portion of their schedule with a 4-2 record that includes an impressive 71-52 season opening win over Manhattan Christian. Whitehall also picked up wins over Ennis, Conrad, and rival Jefferson High School.
Head Coach Zach McLean said he has really liked how the team's defensive pressure has come along late in games.
He also applauded the team for their play on fast breaks.
"Our transition offense and spacing in transition has been really good." McLean said.
In their final game of 2017 last week, Whitehall dropped a 71-67 overtime home game to Southern 5B rival Big Timber.
Trailing by 10 at half, the Trojans would storm back in the second half and took a five-point lead within under a minute remaining.
Unfortunately, a late Herders rally sent the game to overtime where the Trojans would eventually fall by four.
Whitehall was led in scoring by Max Feight, who had an incredible game and a career high 45 points.
"Max is a good basketball player. He puts a lot of time in the offseason working on his game. His game has really evolved this year. Max wanted the ball in his hands that's the type of player he is," McLean said. "Crazy part is was how humble he has been. 45 points, he could care less he wanted to win. He was down after the game. That says a lot about what kind of teammate he is."
Whitehall will next play January 4 on the road at conference foe Manhattan.
