Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Whitehall squad features returning talent, large freshman class

The Whitehall High School wrestling team will have the luxury of both a seasoned group of veteran returners and a large freshman class when they open the season Friday at the Cascade Tournament.

"We have a great group of kids this year. We have a larger team, partly because of the six incoming freshman. They have all had some past experience and are working hard to contribute to the team," assistant coach Steve Sacry said. "We will have most of the weight classes covered, which is a great advantage."

The team has selected seniors Dawson Hoerauf and Kayden Howser, and junior Connor Johnson as captains.

"All three show great leadership and will have success this year," Sacry said.

Johnson is a two-time Southern B/C Divisional Champion. Hoerauf won a division title as a sophomore and was second last year. Howser also has experience wrestling at the state tournament.

Sacry said that other returners that will build on last years experience are Riley Forcella (second at divisionals in 2017), Mike Wilkinson, and Wyatt Powers.

When asked about the upcoming tournament, Sacry said Cascade will be a great opportunity to put what they have been working on in practice to test.

"I anticipate everyone working hard, learning tons and most of the wrestlers placing. It will be exciting," Sacry said.

The head coach of the team is Mark Nelson.
