It’s Homecoming Week in Whitehall.
The theme of the 2017 Whitehall High School Homecoming is “Montana Proud” and there are a variety of events are scheduled throughout the week.
The popular annual parade will take place Friday, October 6 at 1 p.m. in Downtown Whitehall. According to WHS Student Council Advisor Rodney Head, the floats will be displayed on the track for the community to view before and during the Friday night football game.
The Trojans football team is scheduled to host rival Jefferson County High School Friday night at 7 p.m. The Whitehall High School volleyball team will host Manhattan Thursday, October 7 with junior varsity action set to begin at 5 p.m. A bonfire is scheduled for after the volleyball match, however Head said this is still up to the weather and approval from the fire marshal.
Throughout the week, Whitehall students will be participating in a variety of contests including the popular “Dress up Days”. The themes for “Dress up Days” were “MT Universities or Careers” on Monday, “4 Seasons” on Tuesday, “Redneck/Cowboy” on Wednesday, “Granola/Montana Hippie” on Thursday and “Hometown Proud” on Friday where students are encouraged to wear purple and gold.
Head said all week will be a competition between high school classes, and “Dress Up Days” will be counted by class advisors at the beginning of each day, with prizes will be awarded for best costumes.
WHS JMG classes will be doing campus cleanup throughout the week including the painting of Trojans heads on campus, and elementary students will be participating in a best Spirit Poster contest.
The 2017 Homecoming also incudes a “Hometown Proud” food drive. K-12 students are being asked to bring in food throughout the week to donate to the Whitehall Food Pantry. Head said the class that brings in the most items overall will win a root beer float party.
Other events include a powder puff football game Wednesday during seventh period, dodge ball during lunch Thursday, and “Manly Man” volleyball Friday at 8:20 a.m.
Homecoming royalty will be announced at halftime of the football game, and the winner of the Whitehall Booster Club “Kiss the Pig” contest will be announced following the football game Friday.
