Between the Stacks

September is always the time to re-organize the schedule and settle in for winter. Starting September 1st the Library will have new hours per request of our patrons. The new hours reflect not only the busiest times during the week but also the multiple requests the staff has received for opening earlier on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Many of you have told me that you are in town running errands, attending the Farmer’s Market, dropping children off at events but then have to wait several hours for the Library to open. This new schedule is for you:

MONDAYS and WEDNESDAYS: 9:00 A.M. TO 7:00 P.M.

TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS 1:00 P.M. TO 7:00 P.M.

FRIDAYS: 9:00 A.M. TO 5:00 P.M

SATURDAYS : 9:00 A.M. TO 1:00 P.M.

There were no more funds to add on staff time so this new schedule cuts the time the Library has the least use and adds time where it has been most requested. The extra hours for Tuesdays and Thursdays will let adults have access to the computers earlier in the day for business purposes.

The new calendars will be out next week with all of the new programming. If you would like to sign up for computer classes, beginning watercolor classes, or art camp; please call and let us know. Remember that all materials for the classes are provided by the Library.

This year the schedule will include more visits from the different schools in the area. If you see children in the Library before it is open, the chances are they are visiting students. We schedule to come when the Library is closed so they may receive assistance with reports, materials location, literacy instruction and other areas. This also enables us to host many different classes with a minimal amount of overlap with public hours.

Last but not least, I want to take a minute to say thank you to two young men who have volunteered at the Library for most of the summer. Aidan Shea and Curtis Flood have been a real gift to the staff. Everyone will recognize Aidan from the Summer Reading Store and Countdown 2 Kindergarten. Curtis is the young man who came in three days a week to file and shelve all of our DVD’s. We will miss both of them as they return to school this fall. We wish them great success!
