Ultimate sacrifice remembered at Monday ceremony

On a beautiful Montana morning, a crowd made their way to the Whitehall Cemetery for the annual Whitehall VFW Post #4603 and American Legion Post #14 Memorial Day Ceremony.

Local Veteran Tom Harrington told the crowd that Memorial Day wasn’t about sales or barbecues, it has a much more important meaning.

“Americans understand that freedom isn’t free and that eternal vigilance and decisive action are the price we must pay for liberty,” Harrington said. “We must always remember the ultimate sacrifice made by many of our service members and we must continue to ensure our nation honors the commitment to care for our injured.”

At the Monday ceremony, a special tribute was conducted to remember the Veterans of World War I.
